Cytopathological diagnosis of metastatic pleomorphic liposarcoma in the lung: a report of a case correlated with the histopathology of the primary tumour.
[pleomorphic liposarcoma]
Pleomorphic
liposarcoma
(
PLS
)
is
morphologically
defined
by
the
presence
of
pleomorphic
lipoblasts
in
a
background
of
high
-grade
sarcoma
.
Representing
the
rarest
variant
of
liposarcoma
,
PLS
frequently
metastasizes
,
most
commonly
to
the
lungs
.
We
present
the
case
of
a
72
-
year
-old
male
patient
with
pulmonary
metastatic
PLS
.
The
primary
tumour
was
located
in
the
back
thoracic
wall
.
Cytopathological
confirmation
of
the
metastasis
to
the
lung
was
offered
using
bronchoscopical
sampling
methods
.
Bronchial
brushing
and
washing
of
the
visible
metastatic
lesion
revealed
pleomorphic
spindle-shaped
cells
of
high
